The self-interest of our nation is not at odds with the promotion of a more peaceful, just, equal, free and sustainable world. Our federal government exists to serve all the interests of our citizens, not just our most selfish interests. By binding ourselves to global ethical principles we contribute to an international culture that supports the safety, security, freedom, integrity, and moral health of all people, including ourselves.
