To protect free speech, this Constitution does allow independent groups to advocate for issues or candidates. This advocacy, however, is not permitted to be done in coordination with any candidate or their campaign. This provides imperfect protection of our democratic process, because it still allows those with the most resources to amplify their freedom of speech above the rest. True democracy is enhanced when voters share a more equal resource base, and a resulting equal capacity to have their views shared and heard.

This is a hard problem, given the nature of modern mass media. The answer probably cannot be found through attempts to somehow level the playing field by putting limits on political advertising. A more fundamental approach is needed – perhaps it can be found in antitrust law.

Giant corporations and their lobbying power present a direct challenge to democracy itself. They are anticompetitive juggernauts. The country needs fundamental changes to the laws under which they operate (and which they increasingly ignore anyway).

Further, their vast economic power has created a whole new class of the hyper-wealthy, aristocrats in every way except for official titles like “Duke of Plastics” . These individuals should be taxed out of existence, lest they end up owning the whole country.

I would love to get some comments back on how this might be accomplished through revising the constitution.
